I don't know how it started. I was at the hotel while Mathis was napping. When Ray came to pick us up to go back to Nana and Honey's house I asked "How were things this morning?" Ray told me "Truitt has made my mom march about a million miles. I'm sure she is exhausted." Of course, I knew this wasn't true. My mother-in-law is a die hard mall walker and I am 100% positive she can't be out walked by a 2year old. Still, I was curious what all the "marching" was about...
When we got to the house, I was able to see first hand. It was a parade- complete with flags and music and marching. The parade started in the kitchen, through the family room, around to the front door and back again. Truitt would dictate who would lead and who would follow (which means he would lead and Nana would follow) and they would march, waving their flags.
Nana and Truitt on the parade route
I was only treated to a couple of rounds. Apparently Truitt had burned himself out, never mind Nana. Luckily for me, though, as soon as the cousins arrived there was renewed interest in parading. More flags and more people were added and it began again!

When they weren't marching, Truitt made Nana have a little down time with him in front of the fridge. They spelled words and played with letters. Of course the flag was ever present. One of the funny things Truitt came away from all this with is a love of flags, excitedly pointing out the biggest ones (inevitably at car dealerships) as we drive around town. Sometime when he sees a big flag he'll say "Look at the big flag. It's flag day." We've had about 10 Flag Days since Christmas...
