Finshed!

Hard to believe we used to have this:

When we now have this:

Impossible to remember living with this:

Now that we have this:

Stunning to think we were resigned to this:

When it had the potential to be this:

Yes, the bathroom renovation, our 1st ever major home project, is done. It was wrapped up right after Thanksgiving and we have been loving the new bathroom. Ray and I are being a little selfish and keeping the boys using the 2nd bathroom because I can't even imagine my clean white tub being filled with all those crazy bath toys! Ha! We're very satisfied overall with the job our contractor did and with the different tradesmen he used. If you live in Houston, especially in the Heights, and you have a home project, I'm happy to recommend our GC.

It's amazing what a big difference such a small room can make. We still have a bit of work to do- the office is still littered with boxes and bags from the old bathroom. A lot of stuff needs to be tossed but there is some stuff that just needs to get settled in to its new home. I am kind of in awe of how clean and clutter free it is in that bathroom, though, and I hesitate to add anything to it! However, with the well organized cabinets, the wall mounted medicine cabinet and the new linen closet in the hallway, we should have ample room without getting junked up. It's just wonderful. We are really happy with all the finish/trim/fixture decisions we made, especially the sink. Finding something that would fit the space and look good was a real challenge and it was just by dumb luck I stumbled on this open chrome base. It was the perfect solution. Our GC even said he is going to recommend it to some of his other clients with small bathrooms.

We ended up going with hardware from Pottery Barn. I couldn't believe it. I never thought I would be buying home stuff from them again. After all, I've spent the last 6 years purging our house of all the PB stuff we acquired while I worked there. Their light fixture was the closest to what I had in mind, though, and it lead the way. We chose hooks (Thanks, Kat!) rather than towel bars, mounted behind the door, and some glass shelves above the toilet. I am not a very knicky knacky person, but I have gotten a couple cute items like a small clock and a cool hourglass to display. The intention was to have a simple mirror above the sink but everything was either too big, too small or too decorative. When I was buying the hardware at PB, I saw this wall mounted medicine cabinet and it was perfect- simple, clean lines. I can't believe how much I enjoy having my toothbrush and other small items right at hand while I am at the sink. I'm telling you, it's the little things you never knew you were missing.

Anyway, my mom has been begging for photos of the completed project, so here it is for her and anyone else who would like to see!
