Oh, That Boy!

Before I get in to Turtle News, the family would like to wish
HAPPY BIRTHDAY
to a couple very special people:

Happy 3rd Birthday to our niece, Turtle's cousin, Alivia. Accomplished chef and connoisseur of blues harmonica, Alivia succeeds at keeping the family on our toes. She always has a quick "Why?" to help you with self realization and deeper understanding of the tasks you set out to accomplish.
Liv, We hope you have a great birthday and we can't wait to get to Austin for a visit again soon. XOXOXO

Christmas In Corpus

Happy Birthday to Mike, who has made such a lasting impression on Turtle that he has become the namesake of one of Truitt's recycling truck drivers. The drivers came with names, George and Lucy, but Lucy was quickly dubbed "Mike" by Turtle and he will not be swayed by the fact that the figure is actually an African American female. To really see the significance of this, you should know that this is the only toy Turtle has ever named!

Enjoying Starbucks in Corpus. Starbucks makes anywhere feel like home.

I have been remiss on wishing other loved ones Happy Birthdays, as well. Marie celebrated a birthday back on Nov 22, along with Auntie Wendy and Nellie.

Cousins Anaka, Ashlee and Kyle in Austin and Saddie in MA all had fall/winter birthdays as well. I am not a bad aunt, I swear. I just fell off the birthday train for a while...

Here is just one of those things I just have to put down in black and white. There are no photos to accompany it, but it is too cute to not be recorded:

This morning I couldn't sleep. The alarm went off at 5:11 am for Ray to get up for yoga. He wasn't in the mood today, so I shut it off and he went back to sleep. Turtle was snoozing away, too, but my mind was racing with all the things I have to do today. I decided to get up and quietly get some stuff done. I was able to get 3 dinner drops on the Heights Kids' Group calendar, answer 10 emails that had stalled in my Inbox and even check Facebook. Around the time I was finishing those tasks, I heard "Mama, mama" coming from the bedroom. Turtle was tossing and starting the long process he goes through waking up. I decided to crawl back in bed and rest for a few...

About 7:15 Turtle was full on awake, doing that funny thing he does where he gets up on his hands and knees and gets really close to your face to see if you're awake. Then he smiles. Soooo cute. Anyway, we were all laying there waking up and Turtle turns towards me and starts wiggling his hands against my chest. It took me a second to realize... HE WAS TICKLING ME! It was so stinking cute. We always tickle the bejeezus out of him in bed in the morning and this very morning he decided it was our turn. I can't even tell you how funny it was to see the those little hands, little fingers extended, wiggling all over. And the look of sheer joy of accomplishment on his face!!

In other news, Turtle has his 1st class picture today! He wore a button down shirt to look extra snappy. I can't wait to see the final result of herding a bunch of 2 year olds for a group photo. Sarah and I had enough trouble getting just Truitt and Alexander to do it!

Today is a big day at home as well since Turtle's big boy bed is arriving. I am so excited! While this will mean an eventual end to the cute rituals we have waking up as a family, I am looking forward to having my 1/2 of the bed rather than my 1/3 of the bed. This also ends an era- the year or so that has been Turtle The Couch Sleeper. I admit, I am going to miss the puzzled looks I get when I tell people my toddler has been sleeping on the couch since he was less than a year old!

I'm sure the transition to his own bed full time won't be quick or easy, but our feeling is we need Truitt to do this by the time the baby gets here... Otherwise, we'll have a whole tired mess of a family in this house! WISH US LUCK!
