ACL Day 1 (Friday, Sept 26)

Once again, we packed the family up and headed to Austin. At least this time it was 100% voluntary. It was the annual Austin City Limits Festival- 3 days of heat, dust and GREAT music. The last time we went, I was 6 mos pregnant with Truitt. It was nice to bring the TurtleMan back so he could enjoy the music on his own.
We took a more laid back appraoch this year- we knew who we **had, had, had** to see and everyone else was just bonus. Friday night was all about David Byrne. Honestly, his set alone was worth the ticket price for Friday night. We thoroughly enjoyed all his new stuff and the Talking Heads classics he pulled out. I'll say the white hair suits him and his voice is just like you remember it.

Truitt is ready to head in, but not 100% sure of what he is heading in to. Ha!

Approaching the front gate on Friday afternoon.

Starting to think he's going to have a good time; better vantage point
Getting in to the music; Whoa, Dada!
Thanks for the good seat, Dada!

I think he gets his dance moves from his father...

David Byrne; Sunset over Zilker Park

One thing that was notably different this year to previous years was the amount of grass. Austin and the park have really been working to combat the dust issue and this year you could tell. There was enough grass that the dust only started being an issue late on Saturday, after a couple hundred thousand people had trounced all over it all day. As usual, there was abundant free water and bottles for sale. More kids than I remember seeing in the past. Generally, it was a great time.
We stayed out as late as we could. Honestly, we were all tired. Back at the hotel, a soft king bed and Don't Let the Pidgeon Drive the Bus were waiting.

I have some great pics from Saturday. We picked up Anaka early and she spent the day at the festival with us. That was so much fun! We saw some great music and I got some pretty good footage of Robert Plant and Allison Kraus which I'll post later. RP/AK and Byrne- definitely worth the price of admission!
