The Couch Sleeper

Our son. He is funny. Truitt has never liked his crib. Ever. The minute you put his sleeping carcass down in it, he would pop up crying. He would never sleep more than an hour at a time until he came to bed with us. I can't remember what happened, but one day I just said "The heck with it" and laid him asleep on the couch from holding him. It was the longest nap he ever took up til then. Wow, I thought. A few days later and after many attempts at getting him in his crib, I left him on the couch again. Slept like a... well... like a baby.

So, his crib has been lifted back up to the highest level and now is used for changing and stuffed animal storage. We don't even attempt to have him sleep in it anymore. He sleeps now, for all naps and at night, on the couch. We push the big ottoman next to him and we have never had an issue with him rolling off (or even coming close). Hey, whatever works. He goes to bed and sleeps for a solid 3-4 hours before his internal clock says "Hey, mama and dada are going to bed. I want to go with them instead." We have had some nights where he has slept until 3 or 4 am on the couch. Of course, we don't sleep those nights because we are constantly checking on him...

We think Turtle has a little princess and the pea syndrome. We think he prefers the couch because it's very soft. He also likes to sleep up against the back of the couch (with the cushions off). We think he feels snuggled like that. He is a snuggler, that boy!

So, today he took a 2hr 15min nap until I had to wake him up to leave. He was so zonked out, I was finally able to get a picture of the couch sleeping insanity. For your viewing pleasure. He he he

Anyway, this is making us think it might be time for a big boy bed. There are a couple that we like but it's so hard to decide. I am torn between two options from Room & Board, which is where we got his crib. There is the one that matches his dresser (and crib) but only comes in twin -or- a platform bed that comes in a full. I think the full is more practical although I love the looks of the twin. Shoot me an email if you have an opinion:

This is the platform, pictured here as a twin. Again, we would order a full.

This is the twin, except it would be in light wood. It does have a trundle, but that doesn't help 2 adults sleep in it should we need the room...

Oh and since we're talking furniture, we got Turtle the **cutest** table and chairs from Room & Board recently. Check 'em out. We have 2 blue chairs and 1 white one and are looking for a little stool to go under the table. It's so cute and quite a bit bigger than a lot of them for toddlers. We love this because we think he'll get many years use out of it. Heck, I would love this style table and chairs for adults as well.
