Brotherly Love

I love being a mom of 2 boys. There were times when I was pregnant with Mathis that I thought about the whole girl thing- one of each (at least). However, I think that a big part of being a parent is about giving up some of the things you want for yourself and giving your kids what they need. This is how I felt when I knew we were having another boy. Sure, I would enjoy the cutesy aspect of having a girl- the shopping and hair bows and eventual manicures and hair cuts and prom dresses. But I knew that if these two children were the only ones we would have that 2 of the same would have benefits for them. Now, I am not saying brothers and sisters can't get along or be close. When I see my boys together, though, I know that they have a lifetime of friendship- of secrets and forts and mud pies and bike races and skateboards and street hockey and camping and girlfriends and beer and guy stuff- ahead of them.

Now that Mathis is sitting up, he is really engaging us and Truitt loves it. He likes to show him things and tell him what they are. He likes to pick which toys Mathis is going to play with and Mathis loooves his big brother. They crack each other up. Honestly, no one makes Mathis laugh like Truitt can. It's so heartwarming and stinking funny to watch!

Ray and I decided Sunday had to be about chores this week. We had a fun packed day on Saturday but our house was overflowing with laundry and it was a 2 man job. We put a blanket down on our bedroom floor and put Mathis down. Truitt had the option to watch tv or play with Mathis. He decided to hang out with his family. How long will that last? LOL! We told Tru he could pick a toy out for Mathis and he decided to pick his whole playmat and drag it to the bedroom. It was hysterical. He got down there and played with him, though. And what did Mathis do to thank his brother? Tried to eat him!!

And then Mathis had a little spit up and Truitt went to his room, got a burp cloth and wiped up the mat and his brother's face. I have to admit, these days Truitt is a handful. He is having trouble keeping his hands to himself at home (with Ray and I) and even at school. However he is, 99% of the time, sweet as he can be with his brother. He is concerned when he is crying and thrilled when he makes him laugh.

In other news, Mathis is being very naughty. In the bathtub that bad little boy is grabbing the front of his tub and pulling up on to his feet. So naughty!!
