Whose Kid Is This?

If you know anything about Ray and I at all, you know we like to eat. Food is a huge part of our family life, whether it's cooking or eating out. Our lives are basically planned meal by meal. So, it has been somewhat hard to understand how our younger son is not that interested in food. I mean, you think it would be a genetic predisposition.
When we were in Canada, Sarah and I thought it would be fun to give Mathis and Finlay both rice cereal for the 1st time together. Finlay ate his; Mathis wore his. So, I didn't persue it again until we got home and back in to routine. I gave him cereal again but he didn't seem interested. I thought "Well, lack of flavor. Dull. Boring." So rather than go 3 days with it, I moved him on to sweet potatoes.

He looks excited and ready:

but doesn't willingly take the spoon...

and when the food actually hits...

He ate a few bites but that was it. And when I say ate, some was swallowed but most was on the bib. Le sigh. To make matters worse, he had an upset tummy for 4 days because the little rice cereal he did ingest constipated him. Can this be my child? Do I have a baby who doesn't want to eat? Whose kid is this?
I waited another week and yesterday tried rice cereal again. I am not even a fan of rice cereal. Truitt never had it but I found a brand with probiotics and thought that would be great for his tummy, plus it's so mild. It is known to be constipating but I thought the probiotics would help. Anyway, he hated it and didn't eat it. So, again I moved on...
This morning he had apples. He actually opened his mouth for them! Yay! He didn't eat very much but this stage of solids isn't about quantity. It's all about learning. And he seemed to like it better. So, 3 days of apples (which I also hope will help his little system move along) and then we're going to try carrots... We'll keep you updated.
And because we have a sweet big brother at home as well, here is some Turtle cuteness- practicing his "Cheese smile."

It took Abby almost 2 months before she got it and now she yells at me if she doesn't get fed fast enough!
