Today we had a fun family outing to the Houston Symphony. We gambled months ago on the fact that Twosey would probably still be baking at this point and bought tickets. Truitt has never seen "Aladdin" but Mama and Dada love it (and have watched it many times with Anaka). Truitt does love any kind of music, so we knew it was going to be a win-win.
First trip to Jones Hall for Turtle- ticket in hand; walking up with Daddy; having a snack with Mama before going inside.
We had some cool balcony box seats. I've been to Jones Hall several times but have never sat in the balcony before. It was really neat. Turtle and I both enjoyed the fact that the seats swivel. The place was packed with families and it was so fun seeing all the different kinds of people who came out to enjoy the performance. The Symphony actually performed a couple of original pieces based on stories from the region (Sinbad, for example) before they performed the songs from the Disney movie, which they played as a medley.
The conductor dressed in costume, giant turban and all. It really gave the impression that they must enjoy doing the family concert series. Next year they are doing several more, including Beauty and The Beast. That might be a fun family outing with Twosey in the picture as well...
I would say the funniest (and something is always funny where that Turtle is involved) thing was seeing the woman who played the triangle. Truitt's friend Benjamin gave him a "Band In A Box" for his birthday, which we only opened recently. Truitt has become obsessed with the triangle- everything from playing music to signalling an imaginary meal by screaming "Come and get it!!" So, today they repeatedly flashed the percussionist (if that is what she is) who plays the triangle up on the big screen. There was a light in Turtle's eyes, that spark of "I have that thing!!" and he kept wanting to see it again. Can you imagine if he made a career of the triangle? We could all look back and say "We remember when..."
