Operation Finger Paint: Failed

It's hurricane season in the Gulf and a couple months ago I bought some art supplies figuring there would be days Turtle and I would be housebound. Hurricane Dolly rolled around and proved me right. We didn't get any severe weather here, just a couple days of much needed rain, but it was enough to keep us in for 72 hours. "Ah ha," I thought! Out came the art supplies.

Here is Turtle, waiting anxiously to see what Mama has in store:

I spread the splat mat. I put Turtle in his smock. I got a cute divided tray out for the colors (courtesy of Nana and Honey). I had special paper for finger painting and fun paints in squeezable tubes. We were ready!!

Here you can see exactly what he thought of wearing a bib/smock for anything other than eating:

But the smock induced tantrum was short lived and I figured we were off to the races...
Alas, the kid crapped out. He put his finger in the paint a couple times after seeing me do it. He poked at the paper. I made his hand print. That was it. He was not.interested.

After those 1st couple moments, the tray and the tubes of paint became way more interesting and it was done. Mission failed. At least we got some pics out the whole event. It did suck up about 45 minutes when it was all said and done.

Of course, every mission has it casualties. This mission, although failed, was no different. Turtle's socks paid a heavy price for this attempt at fun.

Now there is another hurricane in the Gulf, this time heading on a more direct route for Houston. The rain has already started and I am already wondering what to do in the house with an 18 month old ball of fire for the 2-4 days it's going to take for this to pass. Oy! All I can hope is that the power stays on and that the winds aren't too high. We'll weather it. After all, this is part of life on the 3rd coast...
