Nothing says "family" like eating out...

Updated:

Last week we had quite a few visitors! All the grandparents were here together and Turtle sure enjoyed all the attention. Not only did he get extra walks in his wagon, but there were trips to the park and lots of neat Honey tricks! Here he is spending some QT with Nana at the house:

Speaking of Honey, Cookie also benefits when Nana and Honey visit. She gets extra walks and some actual attention/ affection that no one who lives here seems to have time for. Poor girl.

Everyone's fave pastime in Houston is eating out and we certainly do our share. When the fam is here, we have a couple usual haunts. No visit from Nana and Honey is complete without breakfast at 11th Street Cafe. This little greasy spoon is in walking distance from the house and my inlaws love it. I love it to, but I would die of some grease related illness if I ate there very often. It sure is nice to be able to walk to bacon & eggs, though. One funny bit of 11th St Cafe trivia: they do not have a liquor licence. It's BYOB but if you go for weekend breakfast, you can buy an overpriced carafe of not-fresh-squeezed orange juice and they'll throw in a (really) cheap bottle of champagne. Pretty funny!

Here we see Honey doing the old make-the-straw-wrapper-grow trick. Of course, it was new to Truitt and he enjoyed it immensely!

Of course, we also hit Chuy's with Grammy and Noni. Grandma demands Tex-Mex as soon as she gets to town! She has even learned to stop trying to order a "bean enchilada."

After enjoying some of Houston's finest Tex-Mex; Truitt trying to cram a straw in to a crayon box. I will say that him being able to color has really helped dining out during this active toddler stage (which is the nice way of saying the boy is nuts. lol)
When my Inlaws first got here, we decided we would try a little something new for them. We decided that new should be totally old-school, so we headed to Cleburne Cafeteria. This is a place Ray and I discovered before we were married. We were taking dance classes on Friday nights and this place was on route to the studio. Ray was so intrigued and I'm glad. It's a singular experience, especially not being from a part of the country where "cafeterias" are commonplace. The food is really much better than you would think- sure it's typical cafeteria fare, but not over boiled and over processed. There is a huge variety and it's all very fresh. We all really enjoyed it and it was fun for Ray and I to get back there are all these many, many years ;-)

All that yummy fried and boiled food! Yes, as a matter of fact that is chicken fried chicken!

Truitt in one of their crazy highchairs that have a cafeteria food tray instead of a highchair tray; Nana and Honey; it became Truitt's fave place ever when a girl walked around handing out balloons (so he could play peek-a-boo with Daddy)!
