Here are the obligatory pictures of Truitt ready for his 1st day of Mother's Day Out. Today was Day 3 and he was still pretty upset when I dropped him off. His teacher swears he has fun during the day, eats well and naps well. So, we'll see how long it takes him to get accustomed to the drop off. Hopefully, not much longer.
Sorry this is sideways... but doesn't he look like he knows he is not going to like what's going on?; getting in to the toys before he realizes he'll be staying without Mama and Dada...
UPDATE ON HURRICANE IKE:
Well, basically right now who knows... Yesterday, it looked like Corpus was going to get the major hit. Today it has shifted back to Houston. That's one of the issues with these storms---> you can't preplan b/c they change so often. I mean, one of our plans is to go to Corpus. However, we can't leave in time to avoid issues b/c it might hit anywhere between here or there at this point. However, it's looking like it is going to be a Cat 3, so we would stay put anyway. A lot of people hate when others say "We're due" or "It's our turn." Yeah, weather doesn't work that way, but I think what they really mean is "How many times can we dodge that bullet?"
Houston has been very lucky in the years post Allison. Allison was only a tropical storm, but we had major flooding and billions of dollars in damage. In our post-Katrina world we can't get a sunshower in Houston without it making the national news. However, in 2001 the 4th largest city in the country was completely underwater and no one knew about it. I remember calling my family to talk to them about it and no one had heard a peep about it. Still amazes me to this day...
This 1st picture is the north side of downtown Houston. As you can imagine, it shouldn't be a lake. The 2nd photo is I-10, the interstate that runs from Florida to California. You can see the tops of those 18 wheelers, but what you can't see are 1000s of cars that were fully submerged. The photo below is what it looked like soon after. Amazing that you never heard of it outside of Houston, no?
