Pos-Ike Update

We are on night 4 in Austin, very thankful to Michael and Elizabeth for allowing our extended stay. As much as we adore our very good friends and are happy to have the luxuries of power and clean, running water, we are also anxious and would prefer to be home. Turtle is having trouble sleeping and it's putting us both on edge. Hopefully not much longer as about 50% of our neighborhood seems to have power. There is no rhyme or reason as to where, but enough people do to be optimistic.
One silver lining is Ray has a previously scheduled work function here in Austin on Wed and Thursday. This means tomorrow morning we move from Chez Vaughn to a king room at the Four Seasons. In fact, we wanted to suck it up and pay out of pocket for one night tonight, but they are booked solid. Frankly, I am a little stunned that so many people who evacuated Houston decided to take up residence at a $450/ night hotel... but they did! I am not disappointed to be joining their ranks (esp since the firm is footing our bill)...
Due to the work event, Ray did drive to Houston yesterday to get suits/ties. He was able to check on the kitties, who are fine, and the house, which is also fine. He cleaned out the fridge and freezer. It's a huge loss, but will be kind of nice to start over with a sparkling clean fridge and all new condiments. I mean, who knows how long some of that strawberry jam has been in there?
If power is not restored by Friday, we'll vacate the Four Seasons (sadly) and head to San Antonio to take Andre up on his kind offer of shelter. We are so lucky to have such wonderful friends. We really are, but I hope, hope, hope that doesn't have to be more than the weekend. I really want to get home... Wish us luck!
