Truitt's Hurrication

I feel like there were so many pictures and stories on deck that just got lost due to Ike (Alexi's 3rd birthday, the acquarium and lots of other fun). Maybe I'll post them as way-after-the-facts if we have some downtime, but for now I am just happy to return to life as usual (including our little family blog). As you know, we spent some time in Austin post-Ike. While none of us really enjoyed it as much as we would have liked, it did have some high points.

This was not one of them:

Every traffic sign between Houston and Austin/San Antonio had this sad, sad message. It choked me up a little to see it. After all, for better or worse, Houston is where we call HOME. It is the foundation of our family. We are just so fortunate to have made it through without any serious issues. For many families, this sign is a permanent state of being now.

But, on to cheerier things... Truitt was kept busy with all the sights and sounds of a new place. At the mall by the Vaughn's house he got to have his 1st coin operated amusement rides. Geesh- I remember these things outside the supermarket in North Adams when I was growing up. They were 25 cents and what a treat!! These days, it costs a Buck to ride... but it was a hurrication, so what the heck!

Another great thing about this trip was that we got to see some Houston friends in Austin. Kellen and Isabel were also hurricationing. We all met up (with Harrison and Elizabeth as well) at Central Market for some playtime and lunch.

Compliments of Porter&Hedges, we also got 2 nights at the Four Seasons. In Austin, the hotel is right on Town Lake (which is really the Colorado River) and has the most beautiful grounds. It's always a pleasure to stay there on the firm's nickle. Ray did have to work, but Truitt and I walked around downtown Austin, had a lot of roomservice and one afternoon I took advantage of the hotel's sitting service. Miss Debbie spent a few hours playing with Tru while Mama had a much needed break at the spa.
While it is primarily a business hotel, I was amazed at how much they catered to families. Everything from a diaper genie to a strap on booster for in room dining was available. The kids' menu on roomservice was as good as the adults. Truitt enjoyed grilled white fish with wild rice and steamed veggies from the comfort of his own room. What a life!
