Ch-ch-ch-ch-CHUY's

So, if you've ever visited me in Houston (or if you ever plan to), we've been to Chuy's. With locations in Houston, Dallas and Austin metro areas, it is something of an obsession for urban Texans. Is it the best Tex-Mex out there? I don't know, but I don't think so. Maybe we all adore kitsch? I don't know about that, either. BUT there is something about it... That's for sure!

This is the Houston location, with the new Upper Kirby development being constructed in the background.

One of Chuy's claims to fame is that the downtown Austin location is where the lovely Bush twins were busted with fake IDs back in 2001 (before they were respectable and 1/2 married). Ha!

Bush daughters cited in Texas

AUSTIN, Texas — President Bush's 19-year-old twin daughters were charged Thursday with underage alcohol offenses after an incident in a popular restaurant known for its Tex-Mex food and ice-cold margaritas.

Tuesday night's incident involving the president's daughters was at Chuy's, a student hangout featuring an eclectic décor that includes a painting of Elvis Presley, long strings of wooden fish hanging from the ceiling and a room decorated with hubcaps. Police said they received a call from Chuy's saying that minors were attempting to buy drinks.

We went for our bi-weekly visit on Sunday afternoon, joined by the wonderful Peris family. As always, there was a wait. The patio was packed with drinkers, so opted for inside. Truitt loves him some guacamole. He also ate a bunch of fajita chicken and for dessert was allowed to decimate a tortilla. It was a nice time and we will certainly be back again soon.

The menu. Ray gets Comida Delux, I get Delux enchiladas or fajitas; Truitt's expression shows Chuy's the looove; Lila takes her Tex-Mex very seriously. Ha!
