The Other Woman

Truitt has another woman in his life. Sometimes I even think he loves her as much as he loves me. I know she loves him. And that's a good thing. Magda (short for Magdalena) has been taking care of Truitt since he was 3 mos old. She knows his whole routine and all his cues almost as well as I do. He learns a lot from her- colors and counting and words- and it's all in Spanish. I think it's pretty funny that he says 5 words and 2 are in Spanish (agua = water, gracias = thank you). She comes a couple days during the week and pretty regularly at night. We are soooo lucky to have found a great nanny/sitter early on. Nannies are hard enough to find, but one who is willing to work part time and will always be glad to sit at night is a true gem!

When Truitt and Magda get together, it is non-stop play time. I mean, I can't compete with that. I have stuff to do! She is always down on the floor, running around, at the park. I amazed by her energy and also her patience. She never gets flustered or short (unlike me, unfortunately). If it takes an hour to get him to bed, she puts in the hour. I, on the other hand, end up having him watch America's Next Top Model with me. Ha!

So, one of the funny things that has been happening lately with Truitt and Magda is his imitation of some of her mannerisms- most notably the way she laughs. When Magda laughs, she bends at the waist and puts her head down. Truitt has started to mimic that and that makes Magda (and me) laugh even more. Here is a pic of Truitt watching Magda laugh:

Also, notice my fabulous white trash baby proofing on the left. I wrapped our bar cart with saran wrap so the kid couldn't hit the sauce. It's worked so far! Funny thing is there is not one parent who has come to our house who didn't know exactly what it was for.

So, here we have Truitt's reaction to Magda's laughing. I wish I could have gotten his face, but I think the posture tells the story! He had his mouth wide open, fake laughing. The bending was so hysterical- like he just heard the funniest. thing. ever. The more he would do it, the more Magda would laugh. The more Magda would laugh, the more he would do it. It was a 15 minute, viciously funny cycle of hysteria!

And here are the two of them, winding down from the laugh fest.

Of course, you have to wonder what got Magda laughing so hard in the 1st place. Well, earlier that night, Truitt had been fishing around in my sock drawer. He pulled out a crazy striped pair of knee highs that he thought were particularly fun. All day he was walking around with those socks- doing everything from wearing them around his neck to dusting the furniture with them (dusting happens to be another of his fave pastimes these days). When Magda got here to sit for the night, Truitt was still playing with these socks and somehow (yeah, somehow, Magda!!) this happened:

As if that wasn't cute enough, Truitt started doing this crazy walk with bent knees and it sent Magda in to fits. In fact, I had left the room to finish getting ready before she put the sock on him. Hysterical laughter brought me back. Luckily, I always have my camera handy!

Funny little man!
