End of an era....

...or at least that is how it feels. I slowly started weaning Turtle last month. He is now down to one morning nursing only. Sad. By the time we leave for California, he will be off the mommy milk altogether. I know I can be proud of making it to 16 mos, but I really had 18 mos as a goal, possibly 2 years. However, I am just not making enough milk to make taking the pump and all the supplies away with us worth it. Five days of vacation and I'll come back to a fully weaned baby.

One thing that has been a challenge is getting him to drink whole milk- on its own or as a substitue for breastmilk. I read someone [or someone told me] that I should try a special sippy just for milk. I kind of blew it off until playgroup 2 weeks ago. Keller had a sippy that is different from any of Truitt's and it had milk in it. Truitt picked it up and took a big swig before we realized he was drinking it. It was an *ah ha* moment though! I found those same sippies at Target and bought one. When he saw them, he said "agua" but I told him "This cup is for milk." I filled it up part way and set it down for him. He picked it up and drank about 1/3 of what I put in. That was Sunday. Tonight he drank about 1/2 of it. Big boy! Good, but sad.
