Mom's Day & News from the Fronts

For Mother's Day, we headed to brunch at Benjy's. Even though it was a limited menu and fixed price, it was still wonderful. Truitt and Alexander were on their best behavior and the mommies (and Noni) got to relax and enjoy some white peach mimosas and a great meal.

For my "first course" I had french toast and it was sooo good. I don't know what they breaded it with, but it had this nice, crunch texture on the outside. They also serve real maple syrup, which is such a treat in a restaurant. For my main, I had Halibut with some kind of soy marinade, served over soba noodles and "warm Asian slaw." Wow! It was almost as good as the ginger soy Sea Bass I make at home. ;-)

Here are some photos from that morning. Truitt got pretty tired toward the end since it was more than an hour past his morning nap time.

As you know, we never made it out to dinner with the Youngers on Sat night, so here is the promised "good" picture for Sarah's birthday: opening her gift from us at brunch.

In other news, a couple things happened yesterday worth noting.

On the Noni front: Dr Greene, Gram's oncologist, called and confirmed that the CT scans were in line with the blood work and the cancer is definitely shrinking on this chemo. This is great news, obviously. She heads home on Saturday for a couple weeks, then back with my mom to watch the Turtle while we head to Pebble Beach (yay!) and then she goes home again for another 6 weeks or so... The good news has definitely motivated her, which is what she needed more than anything.

On the Turtle front: Last night was T.O.U.G.H. Turtle did not want to go to sleep. It was late and he was so tired and just would not close his eyes. After spending over an hour with him, I was fed up. So, I waited with him and just relaxed a while and then told him "you need to go to bed in your crib now. it's time for sleep." I put him in the crib and held his hand. He was so tired he laid right down and stayed there. When I tried to walk away, he cried, so I went back and held his hand again and patted his back. Finally, he was laying still and I took my hand from him and walked out. He cried for just a minute and then started babbling (I could hear him on the monitor). He did this for about 10-15 minutes and then... nothing. He went to sleep. Granted, it was 9:30 at night, but that might have been a start of something good!
